Learning What to Cast, What to Share, and What to Carry
Life has a way of placing burdens on our shoulders. Some come through difficult circumstances, some through the struggles of others, and some through the responsibilities God has entrusted to us. The question is not whether we will face burdens, but how we will respond to them.
The good news is that God has given us wisdom in His Word to help us understand what to do with the burdens we face. Some burdens are meant to be cast, some are meant to be shared, and some are meant to be carried. Knowing the difference can change how we walk through life.
Psalm 55:22 (MEV)
“Cast your burden on the LORD, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be moved.”
Some burdens were never meant for us to carry alone. Worry, anxiety, fear, and the weight of circumstances beyond our control can become overwhelming when we try to manage everything in our own strength.
God invites us to cast our burdens upon Him. To cast means to release the weight from our shoulders and place it into His hands. It means trusting Him with what we cannot control and believing that He is able to sustain us through whatever we face.
Sometimes our greatest struggle is not the burden itself, but our unwillingness to release it. We pray about it, but then we pick it back up. We give it to God, but then we worry as though everything depends on us.
Remember: What you cannot carry in your strength, you can surrender to God's care.
Stop carrying what God has invited you to cast upon Him!
Galatians 6:2 (MEV)
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
God never intended for us to walk through life in isolation. He created us for relationships, fellowship, and community. There are times when the burdens we face become too heavy to bear alone, and God uses other people to help us through them.
Sharing burdens means being willing to come alongside someone who is hurting, struggling, or overwhelmed. It means offering encouragement when someone feels discouraged, providing help when someone is in need, and showing compassion when someone is going through a difficult season.
Sometimes we are the ones who need help. Other times, we are the ones God calls to help someone else.
The church should be a place where people do not have to pretend they have everything together. It should be a place where we can find prayer, encouragement, compassion, and practical support.
You may not be able to remove someone's burden, but you can help them carry it.
When we bear one another's burdens, we demonstrate the love of Christ in a tangible way.
Galatians 6:5 (MEV)
“For each one will bear his own burden.”
At first glance, this verse may seem to contradict Galatians 6:2, but Paul is addressing two different aspects of life.
In verse 2, Paul speaks about helping others with burdens that become too heavy to bear alone. In verse 5, he reminds us that each person has responsibilities they must personally carry.
There are responsibilities God has entrusted to each of us that cannot simply be handed off to someone else. Our walk with God, our personal obedience, our choices, and the responsibilities connected to our calling require our own faithfulness.
Others can encourage us, pray for us, and walk beside us, but they cannot obey God on our behalf. They cannot develop our relationship with Him for us or make our choices for us.
Maturity means recognizing that some things are our responsibility. Instead of running from them, blaming others, or expecting someone else to do what God has called us to do, we must learn to carry our responsibilities faithfully.
Faith does not mean avoiding responsibility; it means trusting God as we fulfill it.
God will give us the grace and strength we need to remain faithful to what He has placed in our hands.
As you walk through life, ask yourself three important questions:
Life becomes overwhelming when we try to carry everything ourselves. But when we learn to surrender what belongs to God, share what we can with others, and faithfully carry our own responsibilities, we begin to experience the balance God intended for us.
You were never meant to carry every burden alone, but you were called to be faithful with the burdens that are yours to bear.
Pastor's Question: What burden do you need to cast upon God, share with someone, or faithfully carry today?
